Production Capabilities

This two-and-a-half minute "demo" provides an original composition of production textures and styles. The feature item throughout is drums, but all of the sounds presented are  played live from samples and softsynth instrument libraries, or are loops added from the extensive collection here at Mile-High.

Mixed & Mastered
Instrument Replacement

Quite often I encounter raw tracks requiring specific audio improvements and, quite regularly, this is a drum related issue.

In this clip, the snare drum simply did not match up to the song's needs--it was too dull overall. Using Audio Snapping, I added a second snare tone which played exactly with the original, in both time and in volume/nuance. In selecting a snare sound, I also included virtual room mics and overheads, from which come much of a natural snare's sound. In the mix, old and new were blended together creating a final snare sound which maintains enough of the retro-pop the song requires, but with more air, snap, and wire added. Listen for the Before and After in this audio sample.

Time to move on!

A great little diddy to make a man smile, and a solid mixing and mastering experiment.

Enjoy!

Vocal Correction & Enhancement

In the track clip to the right, the vocals are a bit repetitive out of the gate, and every so slightly off key in a few spots.

This audio sample provides the original verse vocal, followed by the enhanced/corrected version. There are no effects added except compression on the entire file. Notice the addition of natural sounding backups (done without the singer ever opening his mouth), some small melody changes and the fine tuning of the pitch.

I've included the raw drums and bass tracks as backing music to help get a feel for the pitch and, of course, to make the brief clip a bit more fun to hear!

Audio Clean-Up

Using a variety of methods, correction of noisy tracks, or elimination of other track audio issues can usually be accomplished.

In this example, the often culprit, drums, reared its head again. The toms were mic'd, but as it turned out, were doubling as near room mics. The resulting ambience in the tom mics and harsh mid-range were unacceptable for the eventual needs of the song and would have made a proper mix difficult. Using tube emuation expansion/gating, I was able to remove much of the room and cymbal/drum bleed, while not completely removing it so as to maintain a natural feel to the sound.

Take a listen to the before and after in this audio sample. In the first part, you hear the original eight tracks, but note that

I barely put up the kick or snare mics--most of what you hear is the toms and a little bit of the actual room mic (which was recorded in mono, btw). The oiginal tracks fades into the corrected one, and only a small adjustment is made to the kick and snare track levels--the idea was to keep a similar level blend. No EQ or other processing was added whatsoever.

Voice Over Services

Voice-Over work extends to many different areas. This sample is my Commercial Demo. I will be adding Narrative and Character ones in the very near future.

If your company or project requires voice over talent, I can provide the voice, music and production here a Mile-High.
